5 Creative Ways to Use Potted Grass

When you think of grass, you probably conjure up images of rolling lawns and landscaped vistas-not potted grass that grows in containers. However, whether you lack the space to have a suitable garden or you just want some interesting accents; potted grass can be a great way to add style to your home or garden. Here are 5 creative ways that you can use potted grass to add some flair.

1. If you’re ready for springtime, but the weather outside is frightful, then you can start growing your own grass indoors to bring a bit of nature to you. Wheat grass is one form of potted grass that grows beautifully in ceramic containers and can make a nice centerpiece for your dining room table or pretty accent for any other room in your house. Wheat grass is very easy to grow and you should start seeing sprouts in around 3-5 days.

2. If you live in a flat or a small house that has no yard to speak of, then potted grasses can be a great way to provide your space with some much needed greenery. Setting pretty ceramic containers around your patio, filled with beautiful grass, can give you the illusion of being in the middle of a green field. Plus, they require less maintenance and are cheaper than real lawns since you won’t have to pay the boy next door to mow them!

3. Set potted grass around your garden as accent pieces. If you plant shrubs or plants as accent pieces and you don’t like the look that they give off afterwards, it can be a hassle to move them. However, if you use potted plants then you simply just have to move them to a new location. It takes a matter of minutes. This is particularly helpful if you plant your grass in containers that are fairly lightweight-you don’t want to be lugging around concrete!

4. Use potted grass as decorative pieces. You can also use your grass to accent your patio furniture, as well as your inside furniture. Setting out a pretty container on your outside patio table, or on a side table next to your front porch swing can add greenery and a pretty accent piece to your outdoor living space. Weeding is minimal and unlike artificial centerpieces, you won’t have to worry about the elements ruining them.

5. They make great gifts! If you know someone who needs a bit of cheering up, then a potted plant offers some low-maintenance cheer. If your friend or relative lines in the city and is ill and therefore unable to go for their daily walks in the park, then bringing a bit of the park to them might be much appreciated.

Tip: To add some color to the grass, consider purchasing a small windmill or a crystal globe to stick into the pot, such as you might do in your own lawn if you were landscaping your garden. This adds a fun and creative touch to the plant and says something personal as well.

Unlike other plants that can take a lot of pruning and maintenance, grass is fairly sturdy and requires little looking after. In fact, if you are planting wheatgrass it doesn’t even matter what kind of container you plant it in. Although a well-draining container might be your best bet if you are a beginner, once you figure out how much water it needs then you can plant it in virtually anything.

You can purchase grass seeds and grow your grass this way, or you can buy potted grass that has already begun to sprout at most gardening stores. The choice is up to you!
